10th
Anniversary
Gala
LuncheonOn
Thursday, December 1, 2011 more than 300 friends and members of the
legal community came together at The Yale Club of New York City to
recognize ISLP's success and the contributions of the unique global
corps of volunteer lawyers who, over the past decade, have helped
address some of the world's most pressing problems. Guest of Honor George Soros
generously shared his thoughts on topics from the current state of the
world financial system to his confidence in the prospects for emerging
countries, taking questions from ISLP Board member Joe Bell and from
the audience.

Special thanks and
congratulations to ISLP and its awardees were sent by video from Guests
of Honor President Ellen
Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia, winner of the 2011 Nobel Peace
Prize, and the actor and philanthropist Matt Damon.

The
capacity crowd that gathered in the main ballroom was greeted by Master
of Ceremonies Aric Press
of American Lawyer Media. Clifford
Chance and Hogan Lovells
were recognized as Global Pro Bono Visionary Law Firms for their early,
steadfast and significant support of ISLP over the past decade.
Five
individuals were honored as Global Volunteers of the Decade for their
outstanding dedication, accomplishments and support of ISLP over many
years. The awardees were (from left to right in photo below): Keith Watson,
retired partner, Wiley Rein LLP; International rule of law specialist
Barbara Swann;

members, advisers, clients and others who advance the ISLP mission
every day and help set our sights on the work yet to be done.
