The International Senior Lawyers Project
provides volunteer legal services by skilled and experienced attorneys
to advance democracy and the rule of law, protect human rights and
promote equitable economic development worldwide. Through the pro bono
work of retired and active practitioners, working independently and in
law firms, ISLP helps governments and citizens develop and implement
legal reforms, assists programs that advance the social and economic
well-being of people in developing countries, and builds the capacity
of local organizations and professionals to meet the needs of their
communities. ISLP volunteers pay tribute to their experiences, and clients share their thanks for excellent legal assistance:
"We have
been entirely impressed by the work of Bob Kinney.. He made great
contributions to a successful starting of the Bulgarian Access to
Justice project. We have made a preliminary agreement with him for
bringing him back to Bulgaria for a project evaluation sometime at the
end of this year or early next year."
-- Zaza Namoradze, Director, OSI
Justice Initiative "Once in a while we get a
chance to do something out of the ordinary. Last week I spent a week
leading a course on Corporate Governance at the African Centre for
Legal Excellence in Kampala, Uganda. It's one of the most interesting
things I have done in recent years." -- Sara Hanks, partner, Clifford Chance LLP "It's been less than a year
since Project Impact began its relationship with the ISLP, and so many
good things have come out of it. As a result of the pro bono legal
assistance provided by highly experienced lawyers and the excellent
associates working under their supervision, Project Impact is much
further along in meeting its mission than we could have imagined last
fall when we had our first meeting. We thank you."
-- David Green, Executive Director, Project
Impact "I just wanted to let you
know that the Dutch attorneys . . . have been fabulous. They are all
knowledgeable, thoughtful and consistently responsive. . . . [M]any
many thanks!!"
-- Jessica Pena, Assistant General Counsel,
Vera Institute of Justice "I am writing this letter
to thank you and all at the International Senior Lawyers Project (ISLP)
for reaching out and helping us at the Human Rights Law Network (HRLN)
in such a remarkable fashion. . . . I am yet to get over [the ISLP
volunteer's] commitment and contribution. Her unique blend of
compassion, sensitivity and legal expertise made the interaction
easier. She understood the issues, noticed the urgency in some cases,
accessed your network of law firms in the USA as well as the UK and was
able to get very specific and pertinent inputs for our cases. She
quickly covered an amazing range of topics including police brutality,
capital cases, sexual harassment, disability rights and the right to
information and hate crimes."
